Paper Title: A Systemic Functional Study of News Genres in the Information Age
Abstract: Information technology has incurred changes in the discourse styles, organizing mechanisms and communicative purposes of news reports and news forms of news reports emerged as a result. These new forms have not been systematically studied linguistically. This paper adopts the genre theory proposed by Jim Martin as the analytical framework, describing and analyzing news reports from the topological and the typological perspectives, so as to describe the correlation and difference among these sub-genres and draw a genre system of news reports on the basis of an in-depth description of register variable of news reports.
