Title: The Verbal-Visual Appraisal Construction in Indictment Presenting Videos
Abstract: The construction of verbal-visual APPRAISAL in different register has not been discussed in details. Following Martin & Rose's (2005, 2007) APPRAISAL systems on verbal-visual semiotics and Painter, Martin & Unsworth's (2013) graduation system and in reference to Halliday's (1985) model on the logico-semantic relation, the paper is an attempt to discuss the verbal-visual APPRAISAL construction in indictment presenting videos. Based on statistical analysis, it comes to the following conclusions: Firstly, in indictment presenting videos, the verbal-visual APPRAISAL is a comprehensive whole while the verbal APPRAISAL is predominant. Elaboration and extension are main types of their logico-semantic relation. Secondly, the APPRAISAL prosody in indictment presenting videos is always recurrent, which is related to the power of register.
