On April 17, the signing ceremony between the Foreign Affairs Division of the Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's government and the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held. Shen Liang, director of the Foreign Affairs Division of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municiple People's Government, and second-level inspector; and Hu Hao, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Minister of the Publicity Department, attended the signing ceremony and spoke. Mr. Ding Jian, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Mr. Cao Jie, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the Party Committee; Mr. Ge Yang, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office; Ms. Zhu Yifan, Deputy Director of the International Affairs Division and Deputy Director of the Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan; Ms. Wang Jiaying, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Media and Communication; and Mr. Huan Changpeng, Assistant to Dean of the School of Foreign Languages; and Mr. Mou Yi, Assistant to Dean of the School of Media and Communication attended the meeting. The signing ceremony was presided over by Ren Zhujing, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages.

 

Hu Hao delivered a welcome speech. He said that the report of the Party's 20th National Congress stressed the need to enhance the communication power and influence of Chinese civilization, accelerate the construction of Chinese discourse and Chinese narrative system, tell Chinese stories well, spread Chinese voices well, and show a credible, lovely and respectable image of China. Under the guidance and support of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municiple People's Government, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has built up the international communication brand of IP SJTU, and planned a series of international integration media projects around major national publicity themes such as the "Generation Z", the 10th anniversary of"One Belt and One Road" initiative and the China International Import and Export Expo. As the pivotal point of the construction of international affairs windows and the traning of international affairs talents, universities should be heading in the same direction as the international affairs mission entrusted to them by The Times, and they were looking forward to establishing a long-term exchange and cooperation mechanism with the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municiple People's Government to explore the cultivation of brand projects, jointly traning foreign affairs talents, and constructing a new situation of China's discourse and China's narrative system hand in hand.

Shen Liang shared the key work and some influential foreign affairs products of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municiple People's Government. He affirmed that Shanghai Jiao Tong University had seized publicity opportunities, grasped social hot spots, and tapped into the warm and sympathetic stories around us, injecting a lot of new ideas and new highlights into the foreign affairs work. It was hoped that the joint construction with the School of Foreign Languages can guide more young college students to better tell the story of Shanghai and China.

 

Ding Jian introduced the development of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The School of Foreign Languages followed the combination of knowledge transfer and value leadership, clarified the new connotation and new mission of foreign language learning, and was committed to enhancing students' cultural self-awareness and cultural position, and training students' ability to tell Chinese stories well in foreign languages. Ding Jian said that the school attached great importance to the cooperation with the Foreign Affairs Office and looked forward to taking this opportunity to further deepen the two sides' exchanges and cooperation.

 

 

Shen Liang and Ding Jian signed a joint construction agreement on behalf of both sides. In the future, the two sides will focus on forming a joint force inside and outside school in such aspects as improving party-building co-construction, talents training mechanism, business cooperation innovation, emphasizing on the training of high-end foreign language professionals with international vision, promoting the close integration of professional education and industry practice, and striving to build a brand jointly established by both sides. In the future, the two sides will abide by the agreement, tap into two sides' strengths in language and communication channels, build consensus and form synergy, enhance international communication capacity building, and constantly strengthen the communication power and influence of the Chinese civilization.

The participants discussed how to enhance the international communication capacity and innovate the training mode of international communication talents, and responded to topics such as how SJTU can help tell Chinese stories well by using its disciplinary advantages, and how SJTU students can participate in international exchanges and tell Chinese stories well.

Hu Hao presented Shan Liang with a letter of appointment as an industry mentor.

 

In the afternoon, Shen Liang delivered a lecture with the theme of "Practice and Exploration of telling Chinese stories well" as the second lecture of Yuanji Forum in the School of Foreign Languages of SJTU, analyzing the methods and strategies of telling Chinese stories well.
