On March 27, 2024, the 2024 commencement Ceremony and degree conferring ceremony of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held in the Lecture Hall, No. 300, Young Yongman Building. Ding Jian, SFL's Party Secretary; Chang Hui, SFL's dean; Tao Qing, SFL's vice dean; Shang Biwu, SFL's vice dean; Huan Changpeng, Assistant to the SFL's dean; Xue Yuan, dean of the German Department; Lin Zibo, vice dean of Japanese Department; Guan Xinchao, vice dean of Translation Department attended the event, together with mentor representatives and class teachers such as He Weiwen, Liu Huawen, Wei Xiaofei, Yang Mingming, Zhang Li, Suo Yuhuan, Lai Liangtao, Wang Ping, Li Xin, Lu Xiaojun, Tang Yili, Sang Yuan, Li Siqi as well as SFL's 2024 Spring graduates and some alumni from the 2023 graduates class and their relatives and friends. The ceremony was presided over by Ren Zhujing, SFL's Deputy Party Secretary.

At noon on March 27, Zhang Ansheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, took a group photo with the graduates.

 

 

On behalf of the SFL, Chang Hui addressed the graduates, reviewing the tests and unforgettable moments experienced by the graduates and the school in the past three years, and sent a message to all graduates: The ability and habit of lifelong learning was the most precious magic weapon given to graduates by the school. Seeking the truth for life was the unchangeable fundamentals. One should fulfil the role of foreign language youth in practising the Healthy China strategy from the aspect of theoretical construction, transformation of research results, and social services by keeping a problem-oriented approach. One should always care about the world with absolute sincerity, and often empathize with the power of language to build a Chinese discourse system that values harmony and mutual benefit, demonstrating the breath of mind of the foreign language youth in the new era of constructing a community of a shared future for mankind. Finally, he sent his best wishes to the graduates and expected them to give full play to their skills in all walks of life and manifest the style of foreign language speakers.

 

On behalf of all the tutors, He Weiwen affirmed the students' dedication and hard work during the school period, and expected the students to continue to carry forward the spirit of striving for excellence, keep a positive attitude, pay attention to the cultivation of practical ability, apply what they have learned to practical work, constantly improve their comprehensive quality and competence, expand the field of knowledge, deepen professional research, adapt to the development and changes of society, and realize their own life value.

 

Shang Biwu read out the list of outstanding graduates of the School of Foreign Languages in 2024, and together with Ding Jian, presented the honorary certificates of outstanding graduates to the award-winning students, encouraging the students to continue to make outstanding achievements worthy of the time and youth.

Tao Qing read out the list of the SFL 2024 graduate class directors, hoping that the new class directors can keep close contact with the alumni of the class, the school, and the university, promote the alumni culture of "alumni and Alma mater share glory and disgrace", and spread among alumni the concept of "mutual support and common development" .

Feng Lihui, the representative of outstanding doctoral graduates, joined Tongji University as an assistant professor after graduation. She called on the graduates to strive to integrate their personal ideals and aspirations into the great practice of the Chinese Dream, take the initiative to adapt to the needs of national strategic development, and contribute to the country and society.

 

He Yuwen, the representative of outstanding master graduates, embarked on the journey of becoming a Xuandiao Student, that was, the students with excellent moral and academic qualities why were selected as reserve candidiates for party and government leaders and high-quality personnel. She recalled the three years of study and life in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, expressed deep gratitude to the SFL and teachers, and called on the students to shoulder the responsibility and mission bestowed upon them by the times in the new position.

 

With the solemn and vibrant music, the 2024 graduates commencement ceremony and the degree conferring ceremony officially began. The supervisor representatives turned the tassels and presented the diplomas to the graduates. All the graduates went up to the stage one by one to receive their degrees and take photos with their tutors.

During the gift-giving session, Ding Jian, on behalf of the SFL, presented the graduate souvenir book to the graduates, showing the SFL's intention to accompany and concern about everyone's growth, and also the hope that the students will remember the wonderful time spent in the SFL. On behalf of the graduates, Li Zhenni presented to the SFL a crystal monument engraved with the thesis titles of all the 2024 graduates, which represented the students' years of arduous study and the teachers' years of sincere teaching.
