In order to broaden international horizons, promote cultural exchanges between China and Japan, and enhance mutual understanding between university students of the two countries, an exchange meeting between the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Kansai Gakuin University of Japan was held at the Minhang Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University on November 22. Mr. Shifukai, assistant to the President of Kansai Gakuin University and Professor of the Department of International Studies of Kansai Gukuin University; Mr. Lin Zibo, Deputy Director of the Japanese Department of the School of Foreign Languages; Mr. Ryohei Watanabe of the Japanese Department of the School of Foreign Languages, and nearly 60 teachers and students from both sides participated in the exchange meeting.

Kansai Gakuin University, founded in 1889, was a prestigious private school in Japan. Previously, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Kansai Gakuin University had conducted a number of  exchange activities, forming a deep friendship.

For this exchange meeting, the students of both schools had made full preparations. Students from the Japanese Department of the School of Foreign Languages (Class of 2021) conducted a questionnaire survey on the topic of "The Choice of Current Japanese Language Students after Graduation", analyzed the survey results, and summarized the reasons. Students from Kansai Gakuin University also conducted in-depth research on "Where Do Japanese College Students Go after Graduation" and shared their opinions with their Chinese counterparts.

At the meeting, Mr. Lin Zibo and Mr. Shifukai delivered speeches on behalf of the two schools. Both teachers hoped that students of the two schools can have in-depth and friendly exchanges through this activity to enhance mutual understanding between students of the two countries, and looked forward to more such exchange activities in the future. Students from the two schools also held group discussions at the exchange meeting, discussing interesting topics such as Chinese and Japanese culture, economic development, and ideological differences between Chinese and Japanese youth, and elected representatives to summarize the results of the discussions. The meeting ended successfully in an atmosphere of free exchange and heated discussion.

The three-hour exchange meeting is not only the exchange and collision of ideas between the students of the two schools, but also the witness and sublimation of the friendship between the two schools. This exchange, the first offline event between students of the two universities since the COVID-19 epidemic, was even more precious.
