It is the graduation season again. The School of Foreign Languages has launched a series of activities to encourage the 2023 graduates to continue to pursue their dreams without forgetting their original aspirations.

At 9:00 a.m. on March 24, the “Voyage Out” Education Program kicked off in the Conference Room 224 of the School of Foreign Languages. Ding Jian, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, taught the graduates a party class on the theme of "Hold on to your original aspiration, take up your responsibilities, and forge ahead to a new journey", encouraging them to keep the original aspiration of joining the Party, actively practice the core socialist values, and strive to be the spreader of Chinese culture, the contributor of Chinese wisdom and the demonstrator of Chinese spirit.  Xi Sunan, the invited party organizer of the Organization Department of the SJTU Party Committee, He Xiaofeng, the deputy director of the Caring for the Next Generation Working Committee, Zhu Yifan, the deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the SFL, Jin Jing, the secretary of the SFL’s seventh Faculty Party Branch and the director of the SFL’s Administration Office, and Wang Xing and Li Yue, the representatives of the faculty Party members, attended the meeting and sent messages of blessing to the graduates. The graduates expressed that they would remember the teachings of their teachers, keep learning and progressing, always have high ambitions, and polish the party emblem with practical actions.

At noon on March 24, the SFL held a graduation dinner party on the second floor of Liuyuan Garden. Ding Jian, Chang Hui, Xi Sunan, He Xiaofeng, Tao Qing and Zhu Yifan, faculty representatives such as Ding Hongwei, Wei Xiaofei, Zhen Fengchao, Xue Song, Li Xin, Chen Fang and Lu Xiaojun, and Chao Xi from the alumni office, and all 2023 graduates attended the event. The event was hosted by Li Aize and Xie Yuheng, graduates of Class 2023.  

 

At the beginning of the meal, Ding Jian and Chang Hui gave opening speeches, hoping that the students would remember their identity as SJTUers and SFLers, always have full passion and determination, bring courage and perseverance without fear of challenges, and ride the waves without fear of wind and rain.

 

The faculty representatives sent their sincere wishes and encouraged the students to go to the mountains and the sea with the expectation of fulfilling their dreams, the courage to pursue their dreams and the determination to pursue their dreams.

 
The student representatives reflected upon their growth as graduate students, and expressed heartfelt gratitude to teachers for their sacrifices, how unwilling they were to part with their classmates, saying that they would remember what they had learned in SJTU and the SFL, always cherishing lofty ideals and daring to set sail.

Ding Jian, Chang Hui and Zhu Yifan presented honorary certificates to Shanghai Outstanding Graduates and Shanghai Jiao Tong University Outstanding Graduates, encouraging the graduates to take this as a new starting point to pursue the light and live up to their youths.

Tao Qing awarded the Appointment Letters of Class Directors to Zhang Peng and Li Aizhe, and urged the graduates to remember to go back home on their outgoing voyage to chase lofty dreams. He also said that the university and the SFL would continue to be concerned about them and would accompany them to a higher and farther future.

 

Zhu Yifan delivered a speech, expressing her recollections and expectation for the graduates, who, according to her, had spend their beautiful and prosperous years of their lives together and witnessed each other's growth. She hoped that they could continue the “serendipity” and when they reunite in the future, they would become better versions of themselves. 

 

On the morning of March 25, the commencement ceremony and degree conferment ceremony of 2023 postgraduates of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held in Fok Ying Tung Sports Center, with all 2023 graduates and some former PhD and master graduates present. Yang Zhenbin, Secretary of the Party Committee of SJTU, Ding Kui Ling, President and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Gu Feng, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of SJTU, Zhang Ansheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the University and Vice President of SJTU, Xu Xuemin, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of SJTU and Vice President of SJTU, Zhou Cheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of SJTU and other SJTU leaders and representatives of teachers and supervisors turned the tassel for the graduates. With the theme of "take the initiative and create the future", President Ding Kui Ling recalled the trials and tribulations of the graduates' study, research and anti-epidemic experiences, and urged them to become the creators and promoters of history by taking the initiative to understand and adapt to changes. Dr. Nie Haisheng, Doctor of the Class 2020 of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, recipient of the "First-Class Medal of Space Merit" and “Order of August the First", and astronaut extraordinaire of the Astronaut Brigade, delivered a speech to encourage the students to firmly believe in their ambition, adhere to their original intention and take up their responsibilities, and persevere in their efforts. 

 

 

Before the graduation ceremony, the SFL prepared some exclusive gifts for the graduates. The graduation-themed video “ I want to see you” was released by collecting relevant materials from the graduates and teachers.  

 

A cherry blossom sapling hanging with a commemorative plague, which was donated by the graduates, was planted on the lawn of the SFL. Dreams and expectations were also planted.

 

It is hoped that all graduates of Class 2023 of the School of Foreign Languages will remember and practice the school motto of "think of the source of water when you drink it, love your country, and honor your school". May they never let go of their passion, their ambition and their youth!
